I find myself semi-tech savvy. I applaud myself just for knowing how to make power points, turn papers into Turnitin.com, help my mom with Microsoft Office 2010, and figure out an IPad 2. I use public communication sites like Facebook, and I try to get used to new technology like Blogging. When we use Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace, we get in the habit of telling everybody what is going on in our lives. Most people who use these websites religiously, tend to be on these sites a few hours a day maybe five times a week, writing statuses, commenting on photos, taking quizzes, and talking to friends. I find that writing statuses on Facebook make you learn to think about what you are telling your family and friends. Sometimes you forget that what you document on your profile is for everyone to access, and you never know who could be stalking your profile. When I first got a Facebook, I kept thinking that it was like an email, but then I learned that I need to be careful about what I say and comment on. You also need to be careful when accessing the internet because of viruses. Also some people can go on specific websites such as Wikipedia where they can change current information and make it false. Which is a good reason not to use that website. So when you think about it, the reason most people would turn away from social media sites and technology is because of the lack of privacy, and the inability to adapt to new things.
I understand exactly what you mean about the lack of privacy. This is exactly why i don't use these sites. For some reason, though, most people seem to not care about the lack of privacy. Fight Big Brother! Ha ha.
ReplyDeleteI applaud your knowledge of various technological tools, as well. Believe me, this knowledge will help you in the future.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't help but giggle at your description of facebook upon the birth of your profile, "I used it as an email"..I wonder what it takes for people to realize that they should watch what they say online? Google really is the smartest 13 year old I know and can find close to anything...everything you type online joins the history of the internet..and it's all within a search engine to uncover what has been said!
Yeah some people treat facebook like a diary. But why would someone want everyone to read their 'diary'? I wouldnt. And yeah you have to be careful what you post because you always hear about facebook drama and no one wants that. I think facebook should be a once a week think so that people can just catch up on what you've been doing. Not what your doing every minute!
